That is the whole list. The first two are stored on your device and never sent anywhere: a theme preference you asked for and the answer you gave below. Neither requires consent under the UK's cookie rules, because neither is used to learn anything about you. The two Google cookies do require it, which is why nothing sets them until you have said yes — and until then this site has no cookies at all.

Analytics cookies

Not all counting needs a cookie, and this page is the best place to see why the question is about storage rather than about data. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts every page load here and appears nowhere in the table above, because it sets nothing at all — it is the one kind of measurement the cookie rules have nothing to say about. Google Analytics is the other kind, and that is what the rest of this section is about.

Page visits here are counted by Google Analytics, which sets the two cookies in the table above. They are not strictly necessary, so they are not set unless you agree to them, and the analytics code is not loaded at all until you do — it is not in the page when the page is served.

What Google is sent is the address of the page, your device and browser type, and your IP address, which Google says it uses only to derive an approximate location. It is never sent anything you type into a calculator. Site-search measurement, which would forward whatever it found in a web address, is switched off at our end, and so is form measurement.

Refusing does not degrade the site in any way: every page, figure and calculator behaves identically, and you can change your answer using the control below.

Advertising cookies

No advertising is running on this site at present, so no advertising cookies are set and no advertising code is loaded — there is nothing here for you to refuse yet.

If advertising is switched on later, it will be served by Google and will set cookies. It will not load until you have agreed to it, a control to change your answer will appear on this page, and this page and the privacy page will be updated before any of it happens rather than after.

Your answer

A cookie and local storage are not the same thing

Worth knowing, because a lot of cookie notices blur them. A cookie is a small piece of text your browser sends back to a server with every request — which is what makes it useful for tracking, and why it is regulated. Local storage stays on your device and is never sent anywhere unless a script on the page deliberately reads it and transmits it.

This site's own scripts use local storage for two things — your theme and your answer to the cookie question — and transmit neither. That is not a technicality we are hiding behind: everything this site itself knows about you stays on your device.

Checking for yourself

You do not have to take our word for any of this. In any desktop browser, press F12 (or right-click and choose Inspect) and open the Application or Storage tab. It lists every cookie and every stored item for the site you are on. Refuse the banner and you will find no cookies at all — including from the cookieless counter, which is the point of it. Agree to it and you will find exactly the two named above, and no others.

The same panel has a Network tab, which lists every request the page makes. Every entry there should be this domain, cloudflareinsights.com for the cookieless count, and — only once you have agreed — googletagmanager.com and google-analytics.com. If you see anything else, tell us.

Refusing cookies in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies through your browser's own settings, which works whatever a site says. Doing so will not break anything here, because nothing on this site depends on a cookie.

A Global Privacy Control signal from your browser is treated as a refusal, on its own, without your having to answer the banner — and it overrides an earlier yes, because turning it on is you changing your mind. You will not even be shown the question.
